Denmark Ended Their Seven Match Winless Run Against Slovenia With A 2 0 Victory In Their Uefa Euro 2024 Group C Opener

Slovenia vs Denmark: Eriksen scores as Danes end winless streak

Denmark ended their seven-match winless run against Slovenia with a 2-0 victory in their UEFA EURO 2024 Group C opener.

Christian Eriksen opened the scoring in the 28th minute, with Andreas Cornelius adding a second in the 73rd minute.

The Danes had a glorious chance to double their lead in the first half when they were awarded a penalty, but Martin Braithwaite's spot-kick was saved by Jan Oblak.

Slovenia had a few chances to get back into the game, but they were unable to find a way past Kasper Schmeichel in the Danish goal.

The victory moves Denmark to the top of Group C, while Slovenia are bottom.

Eriksen said after the game that he was delighted to have scored and helped his team to victory.

"It was a good performance from us," he said. "We created a lot of chances and we could have scored more goals. But we're happy with the three points."

Slovenia coach Matjaz Kek said his team were disappointed with the result, but he praised Denmark for their performance.

"They are a very good team," he said. "They have a lot of quality and they played very well today. We need to learn from this and improve in our next game."
